Recent News Home Away from Home

HeartShare is launching a new program for residents of Brooklyn and Queens who have autism and other developmental disabilities and live with their families. The Home Away From Home Overnight Respite Program matches these individuals with qualified families for weekend respite and recreation.

Individuals of any age who would benefit from an out-of-home weekend experience in a family setting are invited to apply. The program includes community and in-home activities and meals from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.

Supervision is provided by families with experience and training in caring for individuals with special needs in homes that have been inspected for safety, cleanliness and age-appropriate accommodations.

Introductions are made and a 4-hour visit is arranged prior to scheduling an overnight visit. This helps the guest become familiar with his or her care providers and their environment.

If you are interested in participating in this program, either as a recipient of the services or as a host family, please contact Daniel Chan at (718) 422-3271.
