HeartShare’s group homes and supportive apartments for people with special needs prioritize community inclusion and a family atmosphere.

Group Homes and Supportive Apartments for People with Special Needs

HeartShare residences are a connection to the New York community, its local businesses, day habilitation programs, medical care, employment, culture and recreation.

HeartShare residences are true and permanent homes to those who live there. HeartShare’s group homes are located in typical homes in the community and generally accommodate from 4 to 14 residents, with 6-8 being the average. HeartShare also has two homes for children diagnosed with autism who also attend The HeartShare School in Brooklyn. Supportive apartments can be a single apartment or shared apartment with 2-3 individuals total. Whether a group home that provides 24/7 care or a supportive apartment setting receiving only several hours of support weekly, all residential programs are staffed by skilled, compassionate HeartShare frontline employees called Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). Other group homes and supportive apartments offer less supervision for those who have developed the skills to live more independently.
