Stanley Capela, HeartShare Corporate Compliance Officer and Vice President of Quality Improvement, was appointed to the New York City Citizen Review Panel.
The New York State Citizen Review Panels include three groups of citizen volunteers (Western panel, Eastern panel and NYC panel) who are authorized by law to examine the policies, procedures and practices of the State and specific cases pertaining to child welfare and protection. Panels also are authorized to hold public hearing to examine such issues. The panel typically releases an annual report with recommendations to improve children’s services.
New York State Senator John J. Flanagan appointed Capela to the post. The other 7 members of this prestigious panel include top leadership from peer organizations, such as Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, the Federation of Protestants Welfare Agencies and New York Foundling.
Stan Capela has served in an evaluator position at HeartShare for nearly 30 years and has been working in the human services field since 1978. Capela’s expertise in children’s services was instrumental in leading the successful accreditation of HeartShare’s most recent affiliate, HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services, which has been nurturing and protecting New York’s children since 1869.
